Code of Conduct

The short version

Be decent. Assume the person you are replying to is doing their best with less context than you have. Criticize code, not people. If someone tells you to stop, stop.

What is expected

• Treat everyone with respect, whatever their experience, background, identity or opinion about tabs.
• Give feedback on the work: what it does, what it breaks, what it costs. "This query is unscoped and leaks across tenants" is useful; "did you even read the code" is not, and it is also less informative.
• Assume good faith and ask before escalating. Most disagreements here turn out to be two people holding different halves of a reason.
• Accept that a maintainer may say no. This project has a narrow purpose and a long list of things deliberately not built; a rejection is usually about scope, and the reason is normally written down somewhere in BACKLOG.md.

What is not

• Harassment of any kind, public or private. Sexualized language or imagery, unwelcome attention, deliberate misgendering, slurs, or sustained disruption of a discussion.
• Personal or political attacks, and demeaning comments about someone's competence.
• Publishing anyone's private information without their explicit permission.
• Anything that would be obviously unacceptable in a professional setting.

Scope

This applies in every space the project uses - issues, pull requests, discussions, commit messages and any private correspondence about the project - and to anyone representing the project in public.

Reporting

Report anything that troubles you to conduct@getheard.now. Reports go to the maintainer only, are handled confidentially, and you will get an acknowledgement. You may report on behalf of someone else, and you may report a maintainer.

Nobody has to be sure something "counts" before reporting it. If it made a space worse for you, that is enough to raise.

What happens next

The maintainer will read the report, ask questions if the situation is unclear, and decide. The outcome may be a private conversation, a public correction, an edit or removal of content, or a temporary or permanent ban from the project's spaces. Serious or repeated behavior skips the earlier steps.

Enforcement decisions are made by the maintainer, and the maintainer is subject to this document too. An abuse of that position is itself a violation and is worth raising publicly if the private route has failed.
